Wednesday 1 August: Mini Mosaics Children’s Workshop
Enjoy a morning of mosaic making. Explore the museum looking for inspiration from the museum’s Roman mosaic collections. During this morning workshop you will create a mosaic tile to take home using colourful, safe glass tiles. All materials and instruction provided.
Suitable for age 8 and above. Please enquire about younger children as there is quite a lot of supervision required for children under 8.
Time: 10.30-12pm

Thursday 2 August: Woolly Mammoths Family drop-in
Make a woolly mammoth from the Ice Age to take home at this creative drop-in.
Mammoths are extinct animals and are relatives of today's elephants. These large mammals lived during the last ice age and may have died off when the weather became warmer and their food supply changed. The museum has mammoth teeth and tusks in their collections and we know mammoths roamed across the Cotswolds. Create your own woolly mammoth to take home at this exciting, arty drop-in.

Thursday 2 August: Pop up Ice Age - Family Drop-in
Create your own pop-up ice age scene with sabre tooth cats and woolly mammoths to place in the chilly landscape.

Friday 3 August: Family Film Friday

Each school holiday we will be selecting a film for families to enjoy. Film titles are released approximately 4-6 weeks in advance. For film titles contact the Corinium Museum or visit our website.

Monday 6 August: Roman Armour Workshop Children’s Workshop

During this workshop you will create a helmet, shield, sword and standard so that you feel as ready as a real Roman soldier to venture into the world to do battle. This creative workshop is inspired by archaeology from the Roman fort and from tombstones of Roman cavalrymen. Make your equipment and take it home after you have made it all in this creative workshop.

Wednesday 8 August: Greek Olympic Crowns Family Drop-in
Cut and construct a paper laurel crown, and become a victorious Roman general or an ancient Greek athlete!
In the classical world, wreaths made of laurel were symbols of honour and victory. In ancient Greece, victorious athletes were crowned with laurel, while in Rome triumphant generals wore laurel crowns during their victory parades. Later scholars and poets were crowned. Crown yourself or someone else with your own paper laurel wreath.
Suitable for age 5 and above.

Thursday 9 August: Roman Soldier Peg Doll Workshop Children’s Workshop
March into the museum and soldier out with your own Roman legionnaire!  This directed activity will allow your child the creativity to design their own implements, and learn a bit about Cirencester’s Roman military. We start with a traditional dolly peg as a base and build up the soldier and his kit from there.

Thursday 9 August: To Catch a Thief
Join us to watch this 1955 romantic thriller directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Cary Grant and grace Kelly. When a reformed jewel thief is suspected of returning to his former occupation, he must ferret out the real thief in order to prove his innocence.
Time: 7pm

Monday 13 August: Roman Engineering Discovery Zone

Drop in to this gallery handling session to look at real roman objects up close and learn about how Romans became one of the greatest engineers in history.
Time: 11-12pm
Cost: Included in admission. Free for members

Tuesday 14 August: Printmaking Children’s Workshop
Join us for a morning getting messy with printmaking. You will spend time in the museum galleries looking for sources of inspiration from our beautiful collections and then bring your ideas to create a series of prints to take home. We will learn basic intaglio techniques and create a simple collagraph or collage print.
Suitable for ages 6 to 14 years.
Time: 10.30-12pm

Wednesday 15 August: Viking Sun Compasses Family Drop-in
Make a hand-held Viking sun compass to help you navigate out of the museum and across the high seas.
The Vikings were extraordinarily good sailors and navigators. Many researchers believe that they used hand-held sundials as simple compasses to help them navigate. Create one of your own in this make and take art activity and test it for yourself.
Suitable for age 5 and above.
Time: 10-11am

Thursday 16 August: Gargoyle Masks Family Drop-in
Create a beastly mask inspired by the gargoyles and grotesques on medieval churches.
Gargoyles appear on the outside of churches and are often decorated in the form of animal heads with gaping mouths or human heads with their tongues sticking out. Come along to this workshop and create a beastly mask to wear and take home.

Thursday 16 August: Roman Garden Peg Doll Faeries Children’s Workshop

Make your own peg doll fairy, using plants commonly found in Roman gardens.
After looking at pictures of Roman gardens, paint faces onto wooden clothes pegs, and dress them with pre-cut petals, adding wings made from boxwood or Rosemary plants. You chance to be super creative at this workshop that combines the past with magic and mystery.
Suitable for age 6 and above.

Monday 20 August: Roman Numerals Book Family Drop-in

We will create a booklet of tactile Roman numerals that can be used for reference and taken to school as a summer project. A wonderful project even for the little ones, but older children can use this little book to aide learning more complex numerals as well.  Children will create a tactile book of numerals to take home and use for years to come.
