A summer of theatrical family fun at beautiful Batsford Arboretum
The magical woodland at Batsford Arboretum will provide the backdrop for two very different theatrical experiences this summer – and guaranteed fun and entertainment for all the family.
On July 10th the wonderful all-male company The Lord Chamberlain’s Men mark their tenth anniversary with a very special performance of Shakespeare’s most enduring love story, Romeo and Juliet. The company’s debut at Batsford last year proved a huge hit with visitors and has been timed to coincide with the Moreton Art Weeks event showcasing local artists and theatre.
The company specialise in performing the Bard’s plays exactly as Shakespeare intended, using a very traditional all-male style which certainly adds an extra dimension to the play.
Romeo and Juliet takes place at Batsford on Thursday 10th July with a matinee at 1pm and an evening performance at 7pm. (Matinee tickets all £8.50. Evening tickets £17 for adults, £12 concessions and £10 for children).
On Saturday August 2nd at 5.30pm, madcap theatre company The Pantaloons make their debut at Batsford putting their own inimitable spin on the entire History of Britain! (Adults £10, children £7.50, family tickets (2 adults and 2 children) £32.
Using their unique sketch comedy style the actors tell the story of Harold II and William the Conqueror failing to see eye to eye (!), Henry VIII doubting five marriages are enough and so much more in their comic romp through the last several thousand years of history!
It’s a race around the centuries in the style of the Horrible Histories only with The Pantaloons’ distinctive chaotic energy!
PR and Marketing Manager for Batsford, Susie Hunt says both performances offer visitors a great chance to soak up the atmosphere of Batsford Arboretum out of hours and to enjoy an outdoor picnic while watching the play.
