A Parcel of Penguins arrive at Birdland

A Parcel of Penguins arrive at Birdland

"Just smile and wave, boys. Smile and wave..."

Birdland, in picturesque Bourton on the Water, are excited to announce the arrival of 4 new Humboldt penguins to their colony.

The humboldts arrived from Zlin in the Czech Republic at the end of November and are fully settled in to their new home. After spending a few weeks in quarantine the humboldts are pleased to join the main group, including Birdland’s King Penguins.

The new parcel of penguins, three males and one female, are all under a year old hatching earlier in 2014. The Humboldt huddle at Birdland is now a spectacular 19 strong colony with nine boys and ten girls.

Head Keeper, Alistair Keen, says: “We are pleased to get four new Humboldt penguins into the colony, although these latest arrivals are very young and won’t start breeding for a few years, it is great to get more diversity into the group for future pairings.

He continues: “We are busy getting the nest sites ready for the rest of the group at present and hope they will start pairing early next year.”

Visitors can see the new penguins at Birdland over Christmas, with penguin feeding at 11am and 2.30pm daily.
