Live music returns to the Everyman’s Studio space next week.
On Wednesday (March 4th) singer/songwriter Keith Thompson returns with a stripped down sound. Having toured the length and breadth of the UK and Europe mostly with his band, Keith finds it refreshing to strip the songs down to a simple acoustic level. Blues Matters magazine states: “Keith’s acoustic guitar takes us off to the Mississippi Delta in some songs, gentle, intricate acoustic guitar playing in others. The consequence is not so much a sound as a mood or an all-consuming atmosphere.”
Keith’s gig is followed on Thursday night by Folk On. Once in every generation a band comes to prominence with the power to re-define a genre. A band for which there, quite simply, aren’t sufficient superlatives. They have the ability to hold an audience, as if spell-bound, with no more than a few simple chords. They are blessed with harmonious voices that can, simultaneously, melt women’s hearts and gird men’s loins. Their musical talents are beyond question and to be in the audience, at one of their gigs, is to be in the presence of genius.
Sadly for Folk On, in their generation, that band is Mumford and Sons!
Still, they’re back at the Cheltenham Everyman Studio Theatre for a third time, so give them a chance and try not to look too disappointed.
