'Living Stones’ & ‘Library Tours’ at Gloucester Cathedral

Events at Gloucester Cathedral

On Friday 26 June there will be a unique behind-the-scenes opportunity to visit the Cathedral Masons Workshop and meet the team. New for 2015 the ‘Living Stones’ tour is led by Master Mason,  Pascal Mychalysin and will include a talk about the history of the mason’s workshop as well as the work being carried out at the Cathedral today. The second part of the morning will be a tour around the Cathedral looking at the work undertaken in the building during the past 150 years followed by a final presentation from Pascal.

Tickets cost £24 and include tea, coffee and cake in the Medieval Chapter House. The tour starts at 10.30am and ends at 12.45pm

On Saturday 27 June you have a rare chance to visit the beautiful 15th century monastic library on a Cathedral Library Tour. Located high above the main body of the Cathedral (you will need to go up thirty-eight spiral steps!) the library was originally part of the Abbey and holds a wonderful collection of books and manuscripts dating back to the 11th century. Volunteers and staff will be on duty to talk about the library and answer any questions.

Tickets cost £7.00, (under 16s go free) and includes admission to the Tribune and Whispering Gallery. There will be four Library Tours per day at 11.00am, 12.00noon, 2.00pm and 3.00pm on 27 June, 25 July, 29 August and again on 26 September.
