REVIEW: Dreamboats and Miniskirts at the Everyman Theatre

REVIEW: Dreamboats and Miniskirts at the Everyman Theatre

If you liked ‘Dreamboats and Petticoats’, you’ll love its younger sister ‘Dreamboats and Miniskirts’.

Continuing the story of Bobby and Laura, the musical is set in 1962 when hemlines were rising and ‘The Beatles’ were about to take the world by storm.

After their hit number one Bobby and Laura find their career and relationship going nowhere.  Bobby gets back with his old band and Laura goes it alone.  Are they destined to be ‘strangers on a shore’ or will they end up having ‘a groovy kind of love’?

The musicianship and energy of the cast is amazing.  As soon as ‘Twist and Shout’ came on the audience started toe-tapping and singing along.  Alastair Hill as Norman adds great humour with his take on ‘Handy Man’ as a pelvis gyrating sewerage worker.  Alex Beaumont as Bobby sings a very accomplished a cappella version of ‘You really got a Hold on Me’ and Alan Howell’s Tony is electric with his rendition of ‘The House of the Rising Sun’.

The musical is packed with hit songs and slick routines and will get you clapping and dancing in the aisles.

Dreamboats and Miniskirts runs until Saturday 4 July.
