Double Christmas fun at Newark Park

Christmas in Gloucestershire

The chance to get into the Christmas spirit is being offered twice at Newark Park, the National Trust house on the Cotswold Escarpment near Wotton-under-Edge.

The Trust is hosting not just one, but two Christmas weekends this December, doubling the opportunity for the whole family to get ready for Christmas.

Newark Park may be closed during the winter months, but it opens its doors especially for Christmas.

The Newark Christmas Fair has been going for a few years now, but this year an extra Christmas weekend has been added.

On 5 and 6 December Newark will host its first weekend of Christmas celebrations. The whole of Newark House will be decorated with foliage from the Newark Park gardens, there will be festive music and seasonal refreshments in the catering pavilion, and children can have a go at the Christmas trail.

There will also be a visit from Father Christmas who will arrive at Newark at 11.30am and meet some of Newark’s visitors in the afternoon. He is even bringing some elves, as well as some special gifts with him.

To avoid disappointment we recommend booking a meeting with Father Christmas in advance; tickets are £3.50 per child and can be booked by e-mail: newarkpark@nationaltrust.org.uk.

The second Christmas weekend on 12 and 13 December sees the return of the Christmas Fair in Newark House. It is a great opportunity to browse lots of local gifts and complete your Christmas shopping. Stalls will be spread over the three floors of Newark House, with some additional stalls in front of the house.

Children can enjoy the Christmas trail - with help from the rest of the family - and the Newark estate with its Cotswold views is a great place for a wintery walk. The catering pavilion will have hot chocolate and seasonal treats at the ready to warm everybody up.

The house and gardens will be open from 11am-4pm on both weekends. Standard admission applies, with free admission for National Trust members and under 5s.

More information on the Christmas weekends can be found on: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/newarkpark

Satnavs are unreliable around GL12 7PZ - the best way to reach Newark Park is from the junction of the A4135 Dursley-Tetbury road and the B4058 from M5/Wotton-under-Edge.
