Review: Mega Glamping Pods at Whitemead Forest Park

Review of Mega Glamping Pods at Whitemead Forest Park

After an adrenaline-fuelled 4x4 off-roading session with Whitecliff 4x4 (read our review), we made our way to Whitemead Forest Park. We’d been told that there were some new additions to Whitemead since our last visit in May 2015 (read our review), so we decided that further investigation was in order.

It was a short 15 minute trip from Whitecliff 4x4 through Coleford to Whitemead, and soon we had checked in for a night in one of their seven new Mega Glamping Pods. We’d seen Glamping Pods before but not like this - they were very substantial and we would describe them as closer to being one step down from a log cabin as opposed to one step up from a tent.

Our Mega Glamping Pod was extremely well set out. It comprised of 2 chairs, table, sofa bed, heater and TV/DVD player in the main living space with doors at the front overlooking the Park. Immediately outside Oak Hill is a huge oak tree which when in full leaf during the summer must look even more magnificent! A well fitted kitchen area comprised of a sink, microwave, small fridge, kettle, toaster and crockery/cutlery for four people. Coffee, tea, milk and sugar was provided and also washing up liquid. The cosy double bed included bedding and below was space for storage. Finally, a small bathroom with toilet and sink finished our new homely pod. There was no shower but 2 minutes walk away was a recently refurbished shower/toilet block. They were very smart, clean and warm - which was very welcoming especially as it was below freezing outside that night and early morning.

We soon made ourselves cosy and right at home and were able to touch base with the family via the free wi-fi to tell them of what an amazing day in the Forest of Dean they had missed. We were completely relaxed and very impressed with how well equipped and comfortable our pod was - especially the underfloor heating which proved to be a welcome asset in the morning. A bbq was also available for our use and yes, some people were using them in March!

Whitemead Forest Park is an ideal base to stay while exploring the Forest of Dean no matter what season of the year. There is a range of accommodation on offer from log cabins, apartments and a caravan/campsite - so something for all tastes and budgets.

Whitemead Forest Park’s picturesque setting and full on-site leisure facilities make it perfect for everybody. Whitemead’s main leisure complex comprises of a large swimming pool with jacuzzis, sauna, steam room, gym and health and beauty salon. There’s a restaurant, bar, shop, children’s indoor and outdoor play areas and plenty of entertainment to be found in the The Venue throughout the year. Whitemead really does have everything covered and Explore Gloucestershire thoroughly recommend a stay here.
