Queen’s 90th Birthday Garden Party at Gloucester Cathedral

Gloucester Cathedral Celebrates the Queen’s 90th Birthday with a Summer Garden Party

Gloucester Cathedral Celebrates the Queen’s 90th Birthday with a Summer Garden Party.

Gloucester Cathedral is hosting a Garden Party on Saturday 11 June in honour of the Queen’s 90th Birthday.  Her Majesty will become the first reigning British monarch to reach this age and our celebration will be one of the highlights of the Cathedral calendar for 2016.  The afternoon will feature a bespoke canape menu from ‘LoveBites Events’, featuring local, home grown British produce, as well as strawberries and a glass of champagne, all served in the beautiful surroundings of the Cloister Garth.

As part of the celebrations, local children from Kingsholm Primary School were invited to take part in ‘The Great Gloucester Cathedral Cake Competition’, to design a cake depicting their favourite part of the Cathedral.  Over 100 entries were submitted. The Very Reverend Stephen Lake, Dean of Gloucester, chose both a winner and a runner up from the fantastic pictures he received.  ‘Sugar Celebrations Too’, based in Westgate Street, will produce two cakes featuring the winning images.  First prize went to Megan McKenna, and second to Isobel Moss; both girls and their families will be special guests at the event where the Dean will present them with a certificate and unveil their winning cake designs.

A raffle will take place on the day with a range of wonderful prizes to be won which have been kindly donated by ‘Lily’s Restaurant and Tea Rooms’, ‘Ashley Paul Hairdressing’, ‘Cathedral Deli’, ‘Earls & Co., Crystals’, ‘OMmaZing Chocolates’, and ‘Sainsbury’s Gloucester Quays’.

If you would like to come and enjoy the celebrations we still have a limited number of tickets available, priced at £15, which can be purchased from the Cathedral Office on 01452 528095 or in the Cathedral Gift Shop.
