Autumn arrives early at Batsford Arboretum

Autumn arrives early at Batsford Arboretum

Autumn brings a blaze of colour to beautiful Batsford Arboretum thanks to their magnificent collection of Japanese maples, Sorbus, Euonymus and cherries dotted around the 56 acre Arboretum. This year, thanks to a dry spring and fairly wet summer, you can already see the natural fireworks display of colours starting to appear at the north Cotswold’s attraction, a couple of weeks earlier than previous years.

Batsford’s Head Gardener, Matthew Hall says: “Spring and early summer was very dry and warm and from mid-summer we saw a lot of rain. Whilst not perfect conditions for trees, it will have helped produce the beautiful colours we look forward to in autumn around two weeks earlier than normal.  We are currently seeing reds, golds and yellows which will become more intense as the next few weeks pass.”

As well as amazing colour, visitors to Batsford – just a mile from the historic market town Moreton-in-Marsh - can enjoy spectacular views across the tree canopy to the Evenlode Valley and Cotswolds beyond. It offers visitors a wonderful place to enjoy peaceful walks beside the meandering paths and streams.

It’s not just the Arboretum that attracts visitors in at this time of year though, many come to enjoy a home-baked lunch, afternoon tea or coffee on the deck of the Garden Terrace Café -  just perfect for enjoying the autumn sun, while admiring the view of the walled garden Plant Centre - or to browse the fabulous range of gifts.

Visitors to Batsford can now buy Arboretum entry tickets online in advance by visiting www.batsarb.co.uk
