Log House Holidays has been running as a unique family business for over 37 years and is one of the most environmentally friendly holiday venues around.
Log House Holidays was set up in 1980 by Anthony Edmondson at the age of 23. After four years saving up in a Yukon silver mine Anthony wanted to be a little different. Now, 8 luxury Finnish log cabins and over 50,000 trees down the line, the 130 acre gravel pit has been completely transformed into a spectacular nature reserve that has been awarded an SSSI for its unique habitat and wildlife.
The site strives to be as environmentally friendly as possible in the following ways:
- All of the cabins are built from sustainable woodlands. Designed to withstand Finnish winters (as cold as -52C!) they are extremely cosy in the winter and cool in the summer
- Each cabin also has a ground source heat pump which extracts heat from the lake, supplying all of the hot water demand, under floor heating and the traditional Finnish hot tubs
- Sustainable firewood for the Clearview wood-burners in each cabin is harvested on-site from our coppiced tree plantations
- A large solar tracking system hidden in one of the large reed beds provides nearly all of the electricity that is used on site (it provided over 62,000kw in its first year).
Based in the Cotswolds, guests at these luxury cabins can spend their short getaways recuperating in their own traditional Finnish hot tubs or on their lakeside verandas, exploring the many nature trails around the lake, taking a row or simply relaxing around the outdoor fire-pit under the stars.
Different from the more commercial, larger scale competitors, this holiday venue carefully balances conservation interests with the interests of its guests. The Edmondson family aim to keep each cabin truly hidden away from one another and look forward to welcoming their guests that keep returning year after year.
