Underground Festival returns to Gloucester Guildhall for 9th year
Gloucester Guildhall’s annual celebration of new music returns this September. Filled with 30 bands staggered over two stages, the three day indoor festival will feature headline sets from Mallory Knox, Darwin Deez and Black Peaks.
Having previously hosted the likes of Bastille, Lower Than Atlantis, Peace and George Ezra, this year is Mallory Knox return to headline the new Friday night show, New York based Indie-Pop band, Darwin Deez take the top slot on Saturday 29th with progressive rockers Black Peaks closing the festival on Sunday 30th September; fresh from their Reading & Leeds set.
Following a triumphant return this year with single ‘Black Holes’, Mallory Knox have filled their summer with countless festival shows, and make a welcome return to Underground following their 2013 appearance at the festival.
Set to release new album ‘10 Songs That Happened When You Left Me With My Stupid Heart’ on August 31st, New York based indie pop outsider, Darwin Deez makes his first appearance at the festival amidst a huge European headline tour.
Ahead of their UK tour and the release of hotly anticipated new record, ‘All That Divides’, Black Peaks headlined Underground cinema stage back in 2015 and return this year to close out the festival weekend on the main stage.
Joined by a supporting bill of the UK’s biggest and best in new music, Underground will also feature sets from Hazy Londoners Gengahr, Brighton rock band Our Girl and hotly tipped metal band Loathe. They will be joined by Bloody Knees, Fang Club, Palm Reader, Modern Rituals, The Mysterines, Only The Poets, Bridges, Charlotte Carpenter and many more.
Loosely broken down into three similarly themed days of music the festival is aimed to showcase tomorrow’s biggest hitters, and the finest of local talent, in a tiny 400 capacity festival at an affordable price. Friday 28th features many of the best UK rock bands including All Ears Avow, Elessar & Midnight in England, with Saturday’s line-up taking its pointers from indie-pop and rock before finishing up with Sunday’s metal, alt rock and punk.
This year the festival will team up with Thirsty & Miserable zine to create a special festival edition complete with interviews with the bands and a full festival preview. The first 25 people through the door each day will receive a complimentary copy of the zine to use to plan their weekend, or get signed by their favourite bands.
Designed to be open to all, Gloucester Guildhall is a fully accessible venue with lifts between both stages and the bar area. Underground Festival is an all ages event, though under 14’s must be accompanied by an adult.
