Batsford Arboretum predict a spectacular autumn thanks to extreme weather
Staff at Batsford are gearing up for outstanding autumn colour at the 56 acre arboretum near Moreton-in-Marsh in Gloucestershire.
Home to one of the largest private collections of trees and shrubs in the country, Batsford Arboretum is famed for putting on a show-stopping display of autumn colour thanks to the magnificent collection of Japanese maples, Sorbus, Euonymus and cherries. This year’s display could be particularly special following the long, cold winter, warm spring and unusually hot summer.
Head Gardener Matthew Hall says: “Despite the ground being very dry due to the heatwave this summer, it’s been a good growing year which will be reflected in the autumn colour. The long hot summer has also provided an abundance of berries and fruit seen on Malus, Sorbus and Crataegus. It’s difficult to predict when autumn will be at its best, but judging by what I’ve seen, we can expect to see early colour appearing any time now, with a riot of colour expected from the beginning of October.”

Batsford Arboretum is open every day of the year (except Christmas Day) from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 5pm on Sundays and bank holidays.
