Berkeley Castle & Butterfly House – a great day out for every generation!

Berkeley is a stunning mediaeval castle which has been the home of the Berkeley family since 1153.

Family activities include Archery, Falconry, Jester Skills, Knight School, Wild Play Area, Dressing-up, Treasure Hunts, Arts & Crafts and much more. See the website for detailed information.

Location for the filming of The White Princess and the BBC’s adaptation of Wolf Hall & Poldark.

Tall towers, deep dungeon, grand and gruesome: homely and horrid. Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn & Elizabeth I stayed there; Edward II was murdered there, Shakespeare wrote ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ for a Berkeley family wedding.

Free castle tours reveal tapestries, paintings and fine silver. 8 acres of gardens and grounds, tropical Butterfly House, picnic area and yurt restaurant. 

Groups welcomed with your own Guided Tour.

Berkeley Castle Opening Times 2017

Castle reopens on Sunday 2 April 2017 until the end of October

Sunday to Wednesday inclusive. Always closed on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with the exception of Easter weekend.

The Butterfly House is open Sunday to Wednesday inclusive from May to September

Time: 11am - 5pm. Last guided tour at 3.30pm and last entry 4pm

The Butterfly House is open from May - September
