Tetbury Woolsack Races
BH Monday 26 May 2025
On the May Bank Holiday, Tetbury hosts the eccentric and exhilarating Woolsack Races, a much-loved Cotswold tradition that draws crowds from far and wide. Competitors form teams of four, split into pairs, and race up and down the fearsome Gumstool Hill—a 1 in 4 gradient—carrying a 60lb woolsack (or 35lb for women) between The Crown Inn and The Royal Oak. The challenging 280-yard course is not for the faint-hearted, especially for those eyeing the men’s record of 3.5 minutes!
Beyond the headline races, the day offers something for all ages with a vibrant mix of:

Discover the charm of Tetbury and the Cotswolds, where locally handcrafted arts, unique gifts, and tempting treats await. Take home a special memento and enjoy a true taste of the region’s creativity.
