The Cathedrals Express steam train visits Gloucester
Locals will soon be able to get in to the Christmas spirit with a festive train ride on board The Cathedrals Express steam train, hauled by two Black Five engines – a very rare sight on today’s railways. On Saturday 29 November, the train will be stopping at Gloucester, offering passengers the chance to be transported back in time on a wonderful nostalgic steam journey to Ludlow, which is once again hosting its famous Medieval Christmas Fayre.
The Cathedrals Express will make its way along the Severn Estuary and up through the pretty Welsh Marches, before arriving in the beautiful Shropshire town of Ludlow. Passengers can alternatively choose to visit Hereford or stay on the train to explore the historic town of Shrewsbury.
The Cathedrals Express will pull into Ludlow station at approximately 14:00, giving passengers around four hours to enjoy the magnificent Medieval Fayre. Located in the glorious setting of Ludlow Castle and grounds, the fayre boasts a huge array of stalls and many medieval themed entertainments including fire jugglers, jesters, puppet shows, falconry, jousting and archery as well as historical re-enactments, live music and even sword fighting workshops, making it a truly spectacular event and a real pre-Christmas treat for the whole family.
The Steam Dreams Chairman, Marcus Robertson, said: “Our Christmas trip to Ludlow is one of the highlights of our festive calendar. To be hauled not just by one, but two Black Five engines to such a magical setting as the Ludlow Medieval Fayre will be an unforgettable experience for those on board. For passengers who fancy a more relaxed setting, Hereford and Shrewsbury are both lovely places to spend the afternoon.”
