WWT Slimbridge Scoops Double Gold in Cotswold Tourism Awards
WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre’s 2015 is off to a glowing start after it scooped two Golds in the Cotswold Tourism Awards.
WWT Slimbridge was awarded first place in the hotly contested Large Visitor Attraction of The Year Category for the second year running and in the Access For All Award.
Judges took into account a range of factors including the quality of the experienced offered, developments, customer service, visitation and reviews.
In the last 12 months the Centre has refurbished its foyer installing an information desk and expanded its shop to meet the needs of visitors.
It has also fitted a special lift to its Land Rover Safari trailer so that wheelchair users can also experience the wildlife on the Reserve.
Leanna Moore, Assistant General Manager, said: “We are delighted! The awards are to a great degree the result of the entire team’s commitment, hard work and passion for all things Slimbridge, which makes our attraction such an enjoyable place to visit for our quarter of a million visitors each year.
“Investment in new facilities such as the Foyer, Shop and Education hut, and a better car park, have greatly improved the visitor experience, and this, combined with the welcome provided to our visitors and wealth of knowledge that is shared with them on their visit, has contributed to a very positive visitor experience.
“All our efforts to ensure the Centre and grounds are accessible for people of all ages and abilities have paid off, enabling far more people to enjoy their day out and it is really heartening to have this recognised officially by the Access for All Award. On average we hire out 1000 electric scooters in a year.
“We have also hosted a number of school visits for children with special needs, and special needs group visits, with the experience tailored to the specific needs of individuals in the group to enable everyone to gain enjoyment and learning from their visit.
“With continued achievements such as these, the profile of Slimbridge can only grow and enable us to continue to expand support for the wider Wetland cause. What a lovely start to 2015!”
The Centre will now enter the national tourism awards.
