8th anniversary of hatching first Steller’s Sea Eagle in the UK at the ICBP

Today, the 9th May, commemorates the 8th anniversary of hatching the first Steller’s Sea Eagle in the UK at the International Centre for Birds of Prey (ICBP).
They aim to learn and develop the captive breeding techniques at the centre and each year they go from strength to strength. Hatching a species like the Steller’s Sea Eagle, who is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN red list with a global population of around 5000 individuals in the wild is a real achievement.
The Steller’s Sea Eagles bred at ICBP are part of the European Studbook scheme to help maintain a sustainable captive population which means zoos can work together for future generations.
You can see Benbecula, another one of the Steller’s bred at the International Centre for Birds of Prey, in flying demonstrations daily at the centre.
