2019 Exhibitions at The National Waterways Museum in Gloucester Docks
The National Waterways Museum Gloucester charts the fascinating 200-year history of the docks and the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal.
With interactive exhibits, tea rooms, museum shop and boat trips around the dock, you'll discover the stories of the communities that lived and continue to thrive in Gloucester Docks.
This year there are some great exhibitions as follows:-
Rachel Markwick – Stamp Collage Artist
15th May – 30th September – Level 2
Rachel Markwick joins the National Waterways Museum Gloucester on Level 2 for an exhibition of stamp collage artworks relating to ships and featuring the Gloucester Docks. Rachel is often inspired by poems and the sea. The reaction of most people when they see her work for the first time is one of complete surprise and it’s not until they examine them closely that they realise they are created with stamps. Alongside the exhibition museum visitors will have the opportunity to create their own Rachel Markwick inspired stamp collage.
Flow Photo Exhibition
6th June - 13th July 2019 – Sabrina 5
Flow Photo is the inaugural national photography competition and exhibition about water and waterways. Selected works from the competition will be exhibited at the National Waterways Museum Gloucester on the floating exhibition space Sabrina 5. On every Saturday throughout the exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to make their own pinhole camera. The exhibition has been developed by Future Water Association in association with the Canal & River Trust.
Eric Gaskell Exhibition
22nd July - 6th Sept 2019 - Sabrina 5
Eric Gaskell will be coming to the National Waterways Museum Gloucester for a solo summer exhibition on board the Museum’s floating exhibition space Sabrina 5. Eric’s black and white linocuts feature English and Welsh canals and waterways and are based on his drawings usually taken from life. Born in Wigan in 1957, Eric studied painting and printmaking. He left art college in 1980 winning two painting scholarships, one to New York and one to Istanbul, as well as the Sunderland Echo Fine Art prize. He exhibits widely and teaches drawing, painting and printmaking.
National Waterways Museum is located at Llanthony Warehouse, Gloucester GL1 2EH. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am until 5pm (4pm during winter months).
