Clearwell Caves, located in the picturesque Forest of Dean, is now open for the summer season.
Visitors can explore the fascinating underground world daily (except Tuesdays and Wednesdays), making it a perfect destination for a memorable day out.

Explore the Hidden Wonders

Clearwell Caves offers a unique experience, allowing visitors to delve into the rich history and natural beauty of this ancient iron ore mine. The extensive network of caverns provides a captivating journey through stunning rock formations, with informative displays detailing the history of mining in the area.

Explore the nine impressive caverns, with passages linking them and many smaller, but no less interesting caverns. Experience the astonishing Skeleton Pool cavern and marvel at the beautiful rock formations and mining artifacts displayed throughout.

Deep Level Caving: Dare to Adventure Deeper?

For those seeking a more challenging experience, Clearwell Caves offers Deep Level Caving. This adventurous activity takes visitors beyond the standard tourist areas into incredible spaces created by miners hundreds of years ago. Led by highly-skilled and experienced guides, groups of up to 12 people will walk, duck, crawl, and scramble through the caves.

Deep Level Caving is a physical challenge that promises great fun and a bit of dirt!
The trip takes around three hours, including kitting up, and is suitable for ages 7 and up (under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian). These trips are run occasionally, so visitors are encouraged to check the Adventure Deeper page and bookings page for availability and more details.

 

General Tickets & Pricing

  • Adults: £12.00
  • Child (4-16): £10.00
  • Concessions (student, OAP): £11.00
  • Family (2 adults + 2 children): £40.00
  • Family (2 adults + 3 children): £45.00

Guided tours are available for parties over 15 persons at the normal entry price plus £50. Tours take around an hour and a half and can focus on particular subjects or interests. Please telephone in advance to book.

Children 3 years and under are free of charge and do not need a ticket.

No dogs or other animals are allowed into the mine. However, they are very welcome in the Lamproom Café, gift shop, and around the site.
There are also lovely walks around the common; please ask if you would like further information.
