An enchanting Christmas event in the Cotswolds!
The Enchanted Garden By Night at Painswick Rococo Garden is one of the most magical Christmas things to do in the Cotswolds. Conveniently situated not far from Stroud, Cheltenham, and Gloucester, where we travelled from, it was an easy 20-minute drive to reach this enchanting festive experience.
On arrival, we enjoyed some delicious refreshments, which warmed us up nicely before we embarked on our adventure. The locally sourced pigs in blanket hot dogs were a particular treat, and the jackfruit bun offered a fantastic vegan alternative. Their mulled wine, cider, and indulgent luxury hot chocolate were perfect for setting the festive mood, and the cosy marquee seating made for a relaxed start to the evening.
The light trail itself was captivating, with scenes featuring fairies, disco goblins, and steaming dragons. A standout moment was The Owl and the Pussycat shimmering on the lake—a mesmerising display that delighted both children and adults. Every installation was thoughtfully crafted, and there was something new and exciting to see around every corner. Even our 3-month-old baby, snug in a sling, was enthralled by the lights and sounds, making this a sensory delight for all ages.
One child nearby summed it up perfectly when they exclaimed, “That’s so cool!”
The entire experience, including the trail and refreshments, takes around 90 minutes to two hours. The terrain is not pram-friendly, so a sling or carrier is highly recommended for families with young children.
All in all, The Enchanted Garden By Night at Painswick Rococo Garden is a magical and illuminating night and highly recommended for a festive treat this Christmas in Gloucestershire.
