Hogwarts Express at Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway
The biggest and heaviest star of the Harry Potter films is paying a visit to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire railway this month.
The ‘star’ is the dark red steam locomotive, no. 5972 Olton Hall, which appears hauling the Hogwarts Express that takes Harry Potter and his young wizard companions from Kings Cross to Hogwarts School.
There are three chances to see and ride behind this film-star steam engine! First! Olton Hall is one of the stars of the GWR’s Cotswold Festival of Steam from Saturday 23rd to Tuesday 26th May when it will be working alongside no fewer than seven other locomotives: a fantastic display of motive power to mark the 25 years since the GWR ran its first train service. Click here for more details.
Second! The engine works a special service for everyone to enjoy on Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th May, when it will be perfectly matched with the GWR’s maroon coaches. Also working will be the centenarian world-record-breaking City of Truro – which was the first engine ever recorded to reach 100mph – way back in 1904! There is a special timetable operating for these two days (not the advertised Blue Timetable). Find out about the special train services running on these two magical days on the Honeybourne Line, by clicking here.
Third! No 5972, perhaps better known as Hogwarts Express, complete with the GWR’s maroon coaches, will then work normal Red Timetable trains on Saturday and Sunday, 30th and 31st May . Clicking here for timetable.
