Teach your dog new tricks at Paws in the Park
Is your dog the most handsome around or do they have the most appealing eyes? Now is your chance to find out. Dogs and their families are being invited to Agg Gardner recreation ground (next to the lower lake at Pittville Park) on 16 September for Paws in the Park 2012. The event was originally due to take place a few weeks ago but had to be postponed due to the bad weather.
For the ninth year, Paws in the Park will continue to promote responsible dog ownership and offers a great family fun day. Dog owners will have the opportunity to take part in the Kennel Club's Good Citizenship Awards, which allows them to earn recognition for being responsible owners.
The novelty dog show will begin at 12 noon in the main arena, with 9 classes including a new class for 2012, Best Rescue, which is being sponsored by Cheltenham Animal Shelter. Other classes include most handsome dog and prettiest bitch, most appealing eyes, cutest puppy and junior handler, also the very competitive dog scurry to name but a few. This year’s celebrity judge is Debbie Connolly, who will be judging the novelty dog classes.
Other things to see include a parade of dogs awaiting re-homing at the Cheltenham Animal Shelter, have a go agility, flyball, canicross and low-cost microchipping. In addition there will be stands promoting animal charities, pet services and stores, as well as face painting, bouncy castles and refreshments.
Janice Payne, the council’s community ranger is helping to organise the event, she said: ‘’We are so pleased that we have been able to rearrange this popular event after downpours of rain forced us to postpone it. It is always really popular with people of all ages, and is great fun for dogs. People are reminded to come to Aggs Gardner recreation ground from 12noon.”
Cllr Roger Whyborn, cabinet member for sustainability, added: “Events like this bring the community together and send out an important message about animal welfare. I am sure the day will be a great success.”
