Slouch in the undergrowth with a sensational new art exhibition at the Dean Heritage Centre!
The Dean Heritage Centre (DHC) is delighted to welcome its first art exhibition of 2013. Wye Valley artist Harry Cockburn will be showing his love of the scenery of the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley with his colourful collection entitled: ‘Slouching in the undergrowth’. The exhibition will run from Saturday 12th January until Sunday 24th February.
Harry currently lives in East London and makes his living as a financial journalist and artist however his roots were founded in the Wye valley where he attended Monmouth comprehensive school before embarking on a degree in Politics at Kent University in Canterbury. It was throughout his time at university that he began to experiment with oil paints; firstly in a large abstract style before developing into a more representational style with a focus on nature and complementary colour theory.
As a post graduate he spent his time painting, writing music and working various jobs. Harry lived in several locations from a shed in Bath to under the stairs in a flat in Camden, North London. His path led him to Brighton to complete a master’s degree (MA) in Journalism in 2010.
During his time in Brighton, Harry exhibited his work in art cafes and small galleries whilst working as an arts correspondent for magazines and websites.
When discussing the development of his painting, Harry said, “Representational painting may not always be at the forefront of contemporary art, but there has always remained a huge public appreciation for such art. Artwork used as a direct and personal record of the places the artist becomes attached to is immediately emotionally engaging for the viewer. I hope my pictures convey my continuing awe at the tremendous Wye Valley and Forest of Dean scenery.
