The River Thames and the construction of the now disused Severn Canal made Lechlade a busy trade route back in the 18th and 19th centuries. Nowadays the waterways attracts pleasure cruisers and narrow boats. Visitors to Lechlade can enjoy river cruises and fishing tackle is available for hire for anglers. Funds are now being raised for the restoration of the Severn Canal and lock at Inglesham.
One of the older local landmarks of Lechlade is the church of St. Lawrence situated off the market place which dates back to 1476. The church spire can be seen from miles away. St. Lawrence Church has been immortalised by the poem, "A Summer Evening Churchyard" written by Percy Bysshe Shelley.
Lechlade has an array of interesting shops, pubs and restaurants and is located near to the Cotswold Water Park. With the abundance of water activities and outdoor pursuits for all to enjoy, Lechlade is a great place to stay.
