Bourton-on-the-Water in the heart of the Cotswolds is a beautiful village situated just off the Fosse Way roman road.
Bourton-on-the-Water has the river Windrush flowing adjacent to the picturesque High Street which has adorable honey coloured cottages, fine floral displays, waterside lawns for enjoying a picnic or relaxing upon, and a variety of pubs and tea rooms. Bourton-on-the-Water also has as a wide selection of shops including arts, crafts, gifts, clothing, antiques and there's even a year round Christmas shop!
The river Windrush is very shallow and trout can be easily seen in the crystal clear waters as well as many other wildlife including Dippers. Crossing over the river are several low arched bridges which helps give the name “Venice of the Cotswolds’.
Bourton-on-the-Water is also home to a wide choice of visitor attractions including Birdland, set amongst nine acres of woodland, gardens and river, and is home to some of the most exotic and rare birds from around the world, including the only group of King Penguins in England. The Cotswold Motor Museum & Toy Collection boasts many vintage and classic cars and is home to the famous BBC TV car personality ‘Brum’ – a children’s favourite.
There are two large car parks and the village centre is not far from either.
Once a year, Bourton-on-the-Water gets very wet with a unique event on the August Bank Holiday Monday. The world famous football match in the river Windrush sees the local football team divided into two sides for a hugely entertaining and highly exciting sporting spectacle – don’t get too close – you will get wet!
Each year Bourton-on-the-Water holds a traditional Victorian Christmas shopping event.
