About the Hollow Bottom at Guiting Power
Originally called the Ye Olde Inn, the name was changed to The Hollow Bottom when the 17th century building was bought by a group including Peter Scudamore and Nigel Twiston-Davies. The new name came from the local people who used to refer to the pub as the pub in the Hollow at the Bottom of the village. Not surprisingly it quickly became known as a pub with a racing theme. It's reputation has now widened however to make it a racing themed pub/restaurant with an award winning chef. Behind this re-launch is the extraordinary story of two men who met in their teens on an Hotel and Catering Management Course, became friends and dreamed of going into business together. That dream became reality in 2001 when Hugh Kelly, from Inverness and Charlie Pettigrew from Motherwell took over the Lease of the Hollow Bottom and subsequently purchased the freehold in 2002.
Charlie, who was Young Scottish Chef of the Year, came here via the Marine Highland Hotel on Royal Troon Golf Course, Claridges, Gleneagles and the Savoy, an awesome pedigree by anyones standards. A varied bar menu is always available, but it is no coincidence that since Charlie's arrival his expertise and flair combined with Karen our second chef have transformed the food side of the business so that 90% of meals now served are his specials. From Duck in ginger wine sauce to Crocodile; Seabass with prawns and pine kernals to Kanagroo; Chicken and stilton to Veal and green pepper corn sauce, Charlie and Karen's imaginations work overtime to deliver nothing short of the very best. Specials are changed frequently and the Sunday Carvery is so popular that every seat is booked at the weekend.

Did you know that many years ago in our pub customers had a whistle baked into the rim or handle of their ceramic cups. When they needed a refill, they would simply whistle to get some service. "Wet your whistle" is the phrase inspired by this practice, however we now use high quality glassware.
